If you are interested in a place at St Bede’s for your child, this page will give you further information about how to apply and what to expect. The documents below outline our admissions processes, as well as outline other relevant information. For a quick and easy overview of admissions related issues, please look through the FAQ section at the bottom of the page.

The school’s governing body are the admissions authority which means they determine the admissions procedures in conjunction with the Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth. Please see the relevant Admissions policy below that is applicable to the year of your child(ren)’s anticipated entry into the school.

In-Year Applications

An application can be made for a place for a child at any time outside the admission round and the child will be admitted where there are available places. An application should be made to the school by completing the in-year admissions application form and returning it to Hampshire Admissions:

https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/admissions

To be considered under a faith category, supplementary application forms (SIFs) must be completed and returned to the school office. SIFs can be obtained by contacting the school office or by following the link below for the relevant admission year. Applicants will also need to complete the in-year admissions application form. Both forms should be returned to the school office, along with a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate if they have one.

Where there are places available but more applications than places, the published oversubscription criteria, as set out in the admission arrangements for that year, will be applied.

Parents are advised to read the admission arrangements carefully before making their application.
If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list. Please see the admission arrangements for more details.

You will be advised of the outcome of your application in writing as soon as possible. Applicants must be informed of the outcome of their application within 15 school days of receipt

You have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel if your application is unsuccessful.

FAQ’s for prospective parents

Applications can be made via Hampshire County Council. Please also refer to the relevant Admissions Policy for the year that you are applying.

No. Approximately 10% of our pupils are non-Catholic.

Yes, as this is the expectation of the Bishop of our Diocese. Applicants are asked to fill in a supplementary information form, which helps us to determine how to rank each place. You can find more details of how we rank places in our admissions policy, which can be downloaded from the above file list.

Under normal circumstances children arrive between 8.45am and 9.00am and are picked up at 3.30pm. We can also provide childcare from 7.45-8.45am, or from 3.30-6.00pm. There is a cost for this service and you can find more details on this website (under community/breakfast and after school clubs).

New uniform can be purchased from Skoolkit in Basingstoke: https://www.skoolkit.co.uk/#

You should also be able to find most items (such as trousers/skirts/shirts etc) from other local suppliers such as supermarkets. The school sometimes holds second-hand uniform sales. Pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium receive a free jumper (if this applies to your child, please let us know).

Almost certainly, yes! There are a number of children with special educational needs in our school. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact the school and ask to speak with our Inclusion manager.

No. Many of our children start at St Bede’s with limited English, but thanks to the effective support of our staff, they quickly catch up and by Year 1, the great majority of them are able to function effectively in the classroom.

We have three ‘stay and play’ sessions in the summer term when children can come (with their parents) to visit the school and play in our EYFS department. They’ll meet our staff at these sessions and have a chance to see some of their peers. Our staff also come to visit you in your homes before the children start, so that they can really get to know each pupil. We also hold an information session for parents in the summer term.
