Uniform
At St Bede’s we expect our pupils to come to school smartly dressed and ready to learn. After all, our appearance can often reflect our state of mind! Please note the photographs which illustrate our school uniform.
All children are required to wear the school uniform. They are expected to be neat and tidy at all times. Hair should be tidy, long hair should be tied back. ‘Extreme’ haircuts are not allowed. Shoes should be regularly cleaned/polished. Wearing of jewellery is not encouraged. Small, stud earrings are permitted, but these should be discreet in nature and not be a distraction to pupils.
Summer uniform is optional from the start of the summer term until the end of the school year. Summer uniform is also optional throughout the first half of the Autumn term.
St Bede’s Catholic Primary School is committed to keeping school uniform affordable for all families. In accordance with Department for Education guidance, we have reduced our compulsory branded uniform items to three core items whilst maintaining a strong sense of school identity.
GIRLS
Girls wear a Navy V-neck jumper or cardigan embossed with the St. Bede’s logo, white short-sleeved shirt (long sleeves optional for Juniors), a school tie and a grey skirt or pinafore dress (knee length, pleated or ‘A’ line – NOT straight).
Navy/white/grey knee length socks/or grey/navy tights should be worn (short socks in summer – optional). Standard grey trousers may be worn, but stretch material and bootleg trousers are not acceptable.
Summer Uniform – Blue and white checked gingham summer dress (optional during summer term and first half of Autumn term).
Hair bands, ribbons etc: navy/brown/black in winter – navy/white in summer – NOT bright-multi-coloured varieties and no scarves.
BOYS
Boys wear a Navy V-neck sweater embossed with the St. Bede’s logo, white short-sleeved shirt (long sleeves optional for Juniors), a school tie and long/short grey trousers.
Navy/white/grey socks should be worn (plain not patterned).
Summer Uniform – white short-sleeved polo shirt, grey tailored shorts (optional during summer term and first half of Autumn term).
PE KIT
To comply with health and safety guidelines, children are expected to wear the correct kit for P.E. as follows: School PE T-Shirt embossed with the St. Bede’s logo in house colour, navy shorts, trainers for PE lessons. Cycling shorts/P.E. skirts are not appropriate.
During cold weather, a plain navy tracksuit will be necessary. However, shorts are required to take part in indoor PE lessons, so should be worn underneath tracksuit bottoms.
Please note: Year 1 to Year 6 should arrive at school in their PE kit on their PE lesson days (please check with the school office or your class teacher for confirmation of your child’s PE lesson days).
Year R initially leave their PE kit in school at the start of the school year and change in school on their PE lesson days. At a later date in the academic year, they will also begin to arrive in their PE kit (the class teacher will communicate when this change will take place). Until this time, their PE kit should be fully named and stored in a PE bag.
FOOTWEAR
Plain black/brown/navy/grey flat-heeled sensible shoes.
(NO trainers, fashion shoes or boots allowed).
YEAR 6 TIES
As a special privilege, children in Year 6 will wear a different tie from that worn by other children in the School. The tie signifies the special position of Year 6 in School and re-enforces the message of responsibility, maturity and the good example expected. The privilege of wearing the tie may be withdrawn if there is inappropriate behaviour.
JEWELLERY
The only jewellery children are permitted to wear are stud earrings and/or a discreet necklace (under clothing). These should not interfere with school activities and be removed by children before taking part in PE or activities similar in nature. If children are unable to remove jewellery themselves, then it should not be worn on days when PE takes place. If earrings cannot be removed, parents can cover their child’s earrings with micropore surgical tape. Staff are not permitted to apply tape to pupils’ ears, or to remove their earrings (unless in the case of an emergency).
BOOKBAGS
A Book Bag is used in Year R & Key Stage 1 to keep reading books, homework, worksheets and school to home correspondence clean & dry.
OPTIONAL UNIFORM ITEMS
There are a number of optional items available embossed with the school logo, for example: Navy fleece, reversible jacket, Polo Shirts, Baseball caps in house colour, safari caps in house colour, PE bags etc. Further details can be found at myclothing.com or Skoolkit.co.uk
ANORAKS/OVERCOATS
These should be of sensible plain or co-ordinated colours without logos or markings.
Apart from the particular items available from myclothing.com or Skoolkit, the uniform may be purchased from most department stores e.g. Tesco’s, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s etc.
All belongings should be clearly marked with your child’s name.

To support affordability and sustainability, siblings will be allocated to the same house wherever possible. This will enable PE tops in house colours to be passed down between siblings, reducing costs for families.
Second-Hand Uniform
The school will continue to support regular second-hand uniform sales organised by the SBFA. These sales provide families with access to good-quality pre-loved uniform items at a reduced cost and help minimise waste.
Non-Branded Uniform Items
All other uniform items should be readily available from a range of high-street retailers, supermarkets and department stores. Parents are not required to purchase branded versions of these items.
